Two Steps to Preventing False ArrestsThe Los Angeles Times reported yesterday on several U.S. citizens who have been mistakenly swept up, arrested and locked up as “illegal aliens” by the federal immigration agency, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”), or other police agencies. Some citizens have even been thrown out of the country in removal proceedings, despite their desperate efforts to prove their citizenship. Alarmingly, the risk of these erroneous government actions seems to have increased as officials — federal, state and local — jump on the bandwagon of more immigration enforcement and harsher immigration enforcement, without the careful thought that should go into good government. As a result, everyone’s constitutional rights are threatened through over-reaching and too-hasty police actions. Law enforcement officials could do a lot to prevent the erroneous arrest, incarceration, and deportation of American citizens for immigration violations through two simple policy changes:
It is the federal government’s job to enforce our immigration laws. But in doing so, they must follow the rules in the U.S. Constitution and other laws that are designed to protect us from police mistakes — mistakes that can result in wrongful arrest, incarceration or even deportation.

It is truly unfortunate that this happens. However, if they are US Citizens can't their family show up with the correct information? Aren't we legal or non legal entitled to that one phone call? I believe the ACLU has said that non legal have the same rights as legal? Even the men at Guantanamo have all the same rights that we do.
You also say "it is the federal government's job to enforce our immigration laws". Isn't this a contradiction for the ACLU?

Here is the answer: Demand that our government follow the laws established by our forefathers and subsequent legislatures. Kick all the illegals out; shore up the border; and, penalize ALL business concerns that hire them. THAT is the what the ACLU should be all about. Demanding that the law be followed and thereby aiding 300 Million real citizens. The ACLU seems hell bent on helping only a handful of people and most of them are not citizens and deserve nothing.

Another policy change: stop the random checkpoints that are not the reasonable equivalence to the border. These checkpoints serve no purpose other than the opportunities for the ICE agents to use racial profiling.

I signed your torture memo.
I will not donate a dime to the ACLU as long as you support amnesty for illegal aliens. When you speak of immigrant rights please differentiate Illegal aliens from legal immigrants.

I WONDER WHAT EXCUSE THEY'LL COME WITH NOW.
YA KNOW, FOR EVERYTHING THEY BACK FOR ILLEGALS I CAN AT LEAST SEE WHY IT'S A CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUE. NOT BACKING E-VERIFY? HOW IS THAT A BLOW TO SOMEONE'S CIVIL RIGHTS OTHER THAN THE AMERICANS WHO CAN'T FIND WORK CAUSE OF ILLEGALS? THEY CLAIM THE FLAWS WOULD KEEP AMERICANS OUT OF JOBS BUT THAT'S JUST FUNNY CAUSE IMAGINE ALL THE JOBS THAT WOULD BE GAINED FROM EVERIFY.
SORRY ACLU, YOU ARE TRAITORS TO THE CONSTITUTION AND ARE THE WORST KIND OF TRAITORS KNOWN.
