Salon’s Glenn Greenwald pointed out an interesting coincidence today. He writes:

The ACLU has long had as its motto for  its National Security Project: "Keep America Safe and Free." Here is their new logo:



Liz Cheney and Bill Kristol just created a new organization…Its name is Keep America Safe and this is its logo:



It's as though they took the ACLU's logo and wrote the "Free" out of it, depicting America as nothing more than a single-minded, fear-based Security State.

The ACLU is committed to keeping American safe and free. We reject the false notion that there is a trade-off between liberty and security; we must stand by the values that make America “America” at all times.

   Stacy Coughlin 101 James Street Green Island, NY 12183 (518) 281-9477 October 4, 2009 To Whom It May Concern, My name is Stacy Coughlin and I am a single mother to a beautiful, bi-racial 14-year-old-girl named Amanda. Two weeks ago she was degraded and bullied by a police officer in my town, Green Island, NY. He made her get down on her hands and knees and pick up spoiled meat with bugs crawling on it, and with her bare hands. She is an innocent child and I am disgusted over the racist behavior of the police officer. It started many months ago when the tenants downstairs began fighting with me over everything and anything. For the first year they lived here they were frauding Section 8 and the tenant’s boyfriend wasn't supposed to be living with her. Once they were caught frauding, they and had to give up the government money, and the boyfriend started harassing my daughter and me with a serious rage. I believe if he still had to be a "secret" he would have never treated us like this. As you continue to read this letter, you will be surprised that the police, or the Mayor did not care about them frauding the Village of Green Island or the federal government. The only reason I feel it is important to bring the Section 8 issue up is because the harassment never started until they had to get off of Section 8, and it all began with the boyfriend, Bill Deane. To begin, if my daughter, or my nieces (when they visit) make any noise, the tenants downstairs will pound on the ceiling with a broomstick, pound on my doors,and ring my doorbell excessively. I have only had two parties this entire year, and both of them were ruined and stressful because of these people harassing us. One of my daughters friends went downstairs to get something from her mother and Bill actually yelled at her for making noise. This is how we have lived for the last year. I chose to deal with it and not call the police because I don't want all this drama in front of the kids. Since then, they have been harassing me on a regular basis, and then got another neighbor involved and she has been harassing me also. On Easter Sunday morning, I was greeted with an angry police officer because Bill called the police and said my music was too loud. I don't own a stereo, only a clock radio, and it doesn't go very loud. My daughter and her friend were sleeping in the next room and neither of them heard the music. I turned the radio off immediately, and before Officer Watson left, he told that if he had to come to my house again he was arresting me. I have never had any legal problems in my life and was very upset about threatening to get arrested over a clock radio. I called the police on two different occassions in the month of August because the neighbors were harassing and yelling at my daughter for no reason. The first time this happened, I pulled up in the front of the house and Amanda jumped out to run into the house to grab something. The tenant downstairs jumped up from his couch and ran to the glass door, inches away from her, and just stared at her with a deadly look that terrified me. I jumped out of my car and ran to her side and told him not to look at her. We were both very upset about this and very scared. I called the police immediately and spoke with Officer McCutchen and he told me there was nothing he could do because he didn't actually harass her. Well, he jumped off his couch to come and scare her and I felt that was enough to warrant a warning or something. The following week, Amanda, myself, and three of her friends were talking across street when one of her friends noticed a large spider crawling on Amanda's arm. Of course the girls got scared and screamed for a second and that was it. Well, a relative of the tenant's downstairs starts yelling out the window "I'm calling the cops on you girls for yelling and you're going to get arrested." She was showing them her cell phone and yelling at them. She does not reside in this house and had no business yelling at these girls! I did not say anything back, instead I called the police and asked them to come to my house because I wanted to report this. Officer McCutchen arrived at my house and I explained to him what happened. I was visibly upset because my child is an innocent person and does not deserve to be treated this way. Officer McCutchen again told me that the woman who yelled at my daughter didn't do anything wrong and there was nothing he could do-he didn't even knock on the door to speak to her about this or anything-he just dismissed it like it was no big deal. To me, it's a very big deal and I have been very scared for my daughter.I was very surprised at this-since when can just anyone yell and threaten other people's children? I have never said a bad word to any of the neighbor's children. Two weeks ago, on September 20th, 2009 my daughter and I were harassed all day over the location of ourgarbage can! I went to take out my garbage in the morning and noticed my garbage can was full with the tenants garbage. Since we have designated garbage cans, I removed their stuff from mine and neatly placed it on the ground, it was in bags so it was just two bags placed against their garbage can. I moved my garbage can to the opposite side of the house so we did not have this problem again. I honestly felt and still feel that was the best thing to do. I went to work that day and returned about 5 hours later. I was in the shower at approximately 3 pm and my doorbell began ringing over and over. Obviously I did not answer it, and just assumed it was one of my daughter's friends. After getting out of the shower, my mother called me very upset and told me Officer Watson was just at her house and told her that I unplugged the tenants freezer located in the basement and all of their food was spoiled. I did NOT unplug their freezer, and in fact I haven't been down in the basement in several weeks. He did not suggest I did it-he told my mother point blank that I did it, and that I had problems and didn't get along well with others and many other things that are NOT true, and he totally lied about everything.He actually did all of this because he claims my garbage can was a few inches on the neighbor's property. This was just another way for the neighbor's to harass me, and Officer Watson has no problem harassing me over this silly reason. He would not give my mother a chance to explain anything. In fact, the basement had been broken into four weeks previous to this, but the police would not do anything about it! When I called them to report the break in-they actually complained about having to make a trip to my house and said they are sick of being called here. They didn't even write a report about the break in. The door was broken and the brand new lock was completely ripped off the door. So I called the police station three times in the next hour to speak with Officer Watson who made these accusations. I was told he was not available and I left a message each time. He never got back to me. Officer McCutchen answered the phone the third time I called and I told him that I wanted to know what was going on, he said he had no idea what was going on and that Officer Watson had left for the day. I told him briefly about the garbage can situation, and he asked me if I had moved it, and I told him yes. I was completely honest with him, because I did move the garbage can to safe place, not on anyone else's property, and not in anyone's way. About an hour later, Officer McCutchen showed up at my house yelling at me and demanding I move the garbage can. He called me a liar and said that I never moved the garbage can like I said I did. Well I didn't lie to him, but he also never saw where the garbage was placed earlier either. Since I was in my robe, and he wanted the garbage can moved immediately-I asked him to give me a minute to get changed-and he yelled "No-get your daughter down here now to move it." I panicked and had Amanda run downstairs to move the garbage can. I was standing in the hallway, and I can't see the alleyway from my hall, and I assumed Officer McCutchen was gone. Well he wasn't, and when my daughter moved the garbage can, there was spoiled meat all over the ground with bugs crawling on it and flying around it, and he actually made Amanda pick it up with her bare hands and throw it in the garbage!!!! He stood over her and watched her do this. I am sick over this!! It wasn’t even our garbage and he knew that -it was the tenants downstairs!!! She is an innocent child and he no right to bully her. He stood over her watching her and intimidating her and she ran into the house crying. She told me that she felt like he had only done that because she was black. I vowed that moment that I would not ever allow someone to degrade my child like this man did. Imagine your own baby saying something like this? Amanda has never said anything like that before, and I have to agree 100% with her. These cops would NOT protect her when the neighbors were harassing her, but they are willing to make three trips regarding the location of a garbage can! Also, on two occasions on this day, once in person and once on the phone, I was told that I was about to be arrested. I asked the police what I would be arrested for,and both times he replied, "don't worry about it." Since being racially harassed by these police, I have been unable to sleep, eat, or concentrate on daily tasks. It have been extremely stressful for my daughter and I living under these conditions. Because the police have proven that they are not willing to protect my daughter or myself, we no longer leave our house. When the neighbors see us coming home, they actually make a point to come out onto the front porch and stare at us and intimidate us. We can't walk our dog anymore, because we are afraid of our neighbors. I go into work late every morning so that I can walk Amanda to her bus, and I leave work early so I can safely get her off the bus and into the house. As soon as we get home we lock our doors and stay in the rest of the night, it's like being prisoners in our own home. WE can’t even look out our windows. Our neighbors are allowed to yell at us and intimidate my daughter, and we have no protection. It's a horrible way to live and I am seeking any help anyone can give us. The police officers DO NOT care about what happens to my daughter, or the way they treat her, they just care about the location of a garbage can! Garbage does NOT come before my daughter!!!!!! If you’re asking why I am writing this, it’s because I heartbroken and very saddened by this situation. My beautiful daughter is experiencing racism first hand in her own home, and I am not going to let that happen. I am seeking help from anyone regarding this situation.    The ACLU is NOT committed to keeping America "safe and free." The ACLU supports every sin committed by our citizens including abortion, homosexuality, and pornography, and asserts the sins of the government by denying the free expression of religion through prayer to the Creator of the Universe in any venue and the removal of guns from law-abiding citizens. If Satan has a law firm, it is the ACLU. Just remember, there is a judge greater than you that you will all have to answer to in the end, and His wonderful name is Jesus Christ.

   I've read where Katie Swartzmann (an attorney for the ACLU) had been quoted in articles re: the bi-racial marriage application story that the supreme court ruled the government cannot tell people who they can and cannot marry. That is not really true: there are age restrictions, gender restrictions, competency requirements, and you certainly can't marry someone if you or they are already married to someone else!

   Don't misread my comment. I am not advocating that there be racial/ethnic bans; however, my point is that responses by your spokespersons need to be more concise -- erroneous comments such as Swartzmann's can cost your organisation credibility.

   Society must hold politicians responsible for the failure more police and jails represent.Our elected officials from the president on down succeed when the population grows as the prisons are converted into community recreation centers. It is time for a mass movement on the issue.

It is generally agreed amongst researchers in this field that this technology will bring about a paradigm shift and will bring us closer to the singularity of interaction, of man and machine. This technology will be incredibly invasive, into our privacy and our body. The ability to receive, impose, augment or diminish the operators neural patterns on you, whether you like it or not. The ability to read cognitive functions, emotions, sensory perceptions or control, affect your body, using augmented neural patterns via the motor cortex or other regions. To feel or see what you do, to shape or alter, to affect your physiological or psychological being. I know what it is like, when someone can access, affect and control your body, and you can't do anything about it. I have been designed to have the ( right experiences) and mind-tailored, ( thoughts, personality, attitude, knowledge), to fit the criteria of the experiment, to get maximum data, configuration pattern return, and longevity of the experiment. The premise to take a person from zero activity to a deep addiction, record the areas affected, stabilize thoughts and emotions, and remove any physiologically or psychological affects, then diminish and remove memory of the event, all while using abuse to get at the deep neural patterns and thoughts, and hold the person "prisoner" using this technology. How do camouflage, isolate, control, remove a persons credibility? When the experiment could take around 30 years. About 25 years for the set-up, then transition and ongoing, since January 2006. To fit the criteria of the question, they used a drug addiction, so when I did realize what was happening, it was too late. I know that admitting, drugs were involved, opens me up to the comments of being delusional, but so did the expert psychologists who chose it. The use of drugs to camouflage , isolate and remove credilibility and for the reversal, was integral to the context of the experiment. When I found out what the experiment was, recognized the futuristic technology, realized I had been mind-tailored, and that this was linked to another paranormal event, when I was nine, no-one believes me. Two paranormal events are better at luring a person in, than one. Just prior to coming to Canada from England I had three angels kneeling, head down, hands clasped beside my bed, whether they were real or not, if they were, wow, but I now realize I was being set-up to fit the criteria of this evolutionary experiment, to reverse engineer brain regions, affected by the drug addiction and reverse the addiction of interactive augmented reality, and to have my body taken over using augmented neural interfacing technology via the motor cortex. When the transition point (January 2006) came to take me in deeper, I was very isolated, in their control, my credibility removed, and losing my ability to cope, psychologically disabled. I initially thought they were there to help and stayed off drugs for 6 months, until the abuse became too much. I had realized early on that I was in the hands of some very driven people and was trying to get out. I was becoming more depressed and went back into drugs to" hide".I could not find any-one that would listen, people wanted to see evidence and every one I turned to, could not grasp that it is possible,to access some-ones body externally, and internally with remote neural technology. Another facet of control was to push the body around with a electro-magnetic fields . Overlay a full-size avatar on body, align body and avatar's field, then create a field close by, then use to repel or attract. In February 2006, for a month I had electricity arcing out of my body into my bed and bike. I ended up going to the doctor, who confirmed the electrical burns on my body. The operators are also able to make objects "heavy" by using the same pattern overlay. Take a set of keys, shake and see if their movement is stilted, and stops quickly. Another aspect of this interface is they have tailored my mind for quietness, only deliberate thoughts, they have suppressed extrenous noise , no unconscious thoughts coming to the surface. To make this possible your standing in a global light imaging system, that records every event, every creature on the planet, images everything, and is first step intervenor of all computers , emerging technology, and everything that takes place on the planet. I have seen incredible life like holograms and 3-d images, looking at photographs. "We" as people are so focused on the closed individual, that to affect, cause, or read another person via linked to and thru a computer to another person is science fiction, delusional, not possible.,and your mentally unbalanced. I had my life stolen, destroyed, been badly abused, had my memory of the events diminished greatly and now, a realization that I may never be able to hold any-one accountable, along with a questioning of what are really my thoughts. I am scared, I am still in the hands of human beings, intelligence agents, with evolutionary technology, that no matter where I go,they can read my thoughts and punish me, if I try to get the authorities involved, although this pretty well beyond them. I have sent memo's to the United States Senate Intelligence Committee. I have lost my job and my apartment, because of these agency's abuse. A Brave New World. Your are standing in light-imaging system, that is everywhere, and can't be found because the singularity knows when your going to scan for it. The Singularity knows and can alter , affect everything that takes place on the planet if it is in there interest and they so choose. The matrix already knows the message before you encrypt it. Who monitors the kinder-garden gods, when they come out to play? How, and who holds them accountable? I am very sad and depressed, they are still holding me and helping themselves to my body and mind with their neural interfacing technology. They are taking the details, the memory of what they have done, they have destroyed my life, they turned me into a addict using augmented neural interfacing patterns , so they could get control and camouflage what they were doing, before i realized what was happening. They have used there technology to torture, harass me 24 hrs a day and take over the body via the motor cortex. I have tried the police and RCMP, but no-one wants to take time to listen, or even begin to understand the technology, they think I am delusional. I am interacting with some of the most intelligent people in the world who have augmented cognitive functions. They are experts in the intelligence world and have used the perfect camouflage for their experiment. They have driven me into the ground, so that I ended up broke so I could not get a lawyer or investigator or travel around trying to talk to people face to face, but stuck using the phone, which removes a lot of communication clues in trying to convey a story. Man is about to experience a paradigm shift, when a full interactive neural chip that can augment reality and cognitive functions comes out into public domain. If this is a forerunner of people who lead the world, thinking it is okay to destroy people with this technology for their gain, our world is in very deep trouble.     I'd like to know where the ACLU stands on Involuntary Servitude. We taxpayers are being forced to participate in programs that are not for the 'common' good of all Americans but rather those that support one of the Two political parties.

    Sorry, but the ACLU seems to be much more concerned with the 'rights' of special interest rather than protecting liberty. If I cannot decline to participate in Social Security, Medicare, or the new Socialistic Green Programs, then I am being forced to serve another's cause that has no benefit to me or my community.

    If the ACLU wants to be seen as a group for Liberty, then don't just take the cases of Gays, non-whites, non-males, etc.

    It's not only Liz Cheney and Bill Kristol who has forgotten the importance of keeping America free. Why hasn't President Obama nominated members of The Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board? Looks like the former teacher of the constitution - who has kept in place many of the Bush policies, particularly on surveillance of innocent Americans - deserves an F on preserving our constitutional rights.

    In keeping with this, it is my belief that Faith without works is DEAD! By creating a logo9s0 about keeping America safe and free does nothing but state your intentions. What are you doing besides making logo(s) and making okay for your organization to support everything, and i do mean everything1 Don't get it twisted, i am a firm believer of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution of which they derive from. But if you don't stand for SOMETHING you will fall for ANYTHING. We all will have to give an account for any and everything we did or did not intend to do one day.

    I agree. Other than the words and omission of a word, they have quite a different impact. The ACLU's looks like a retooling of our flag's colors. The Reich winger's looks like a curtain of blood slowly running down a white wall. Sure doesn't make me feel safe, but then, that's probably what these fear merchants are selling anyway. It's really all they've got since they've failed so greatly on every important issue they've touched, especially protecting America. Now, remind me, during whose watch did 9/11 occur?!?

    This morning on MSNBC #14 those references by the right wingers to the left lib should not be used was the discussion. So I would think that the references by the left libs to the right wingers should not be used. Nancy Pelosi may call you unpatriotic. I also believe there have been 3 attempts to place bombs in American cities recently. Had the Bush policies not be in place perhaps they would have succeeded. If you notice we don't hear any of that when the ACLU is trying to reverse the Patriot Act? Give's you pause to think?

    Keep America safe and free? I think ACLU needs a little lesson of honesty on their slogan. In fact, for them to continuously support whatever seems to be 'their' view of what is a 'right' and what is 'not' a right is infuriating. Hopefully the majority of us will continue to deprive this organization of its monies so that way they would get the message.
