NEW YORK - The American Civil Liberties Union today announced the addition of Jed Miller to the senior communications staff as Director of Internet Programs. Miller's charge is to enhance and expand all aspects of the organization's Internet presence.

"I could not be more thrilled to have Jed join our team," said Emily Tynes, Director of Communications. "His Web expertise and analytical know-how will propel the ACLU's Internet programs to the vanguard of online sophistication."

After an intensive national search, Miller was selected to join the ACLU earlier this year. In his capacity as Director of Internet Programs Miller has begun enhancements to the ACLU's national Web site and email communications, launched new online features helped supervise changes in Internet operations, and worked to integrate the organization's education, fundraising, media, communications and advocacy efforts.

Miller has been deeply involved in the forefront of online advocacy. He was most recently director of the nonprofit organization Web Lab, where he created online dialogues using an innovative technique to foster civil exchange and citizen engagement. He has developed Internet community and advocacy strategies for many groups, including Global Kids, Inc., AmericaSpeaks and The New York Times Company Foundation.

Miller has written and spoken about digital democracy and Internet culture for groups such as the Soros Foundation, the South by Southwest festival and PlaNetwork Journal.

"The ACLU is carrying the standard for civil liberties and personal freedoms at a critical moment in our history," said Miller. "Millions of people share the ACLU's values and concerns, and I'm excited about this chance to connect those people to the issues, to our work and to each other."
