ACLU Investigation Reveals Grossly Inadequate Conditions On Federal Death Row (10/15/2008) TERRE HAUTE, IN – Existing conditions on federal death row are grossly inadequate, fail to meet constitutional standards and jeopardize the health and safety of the men who live there, according to an American Civil Liberties Union investigation.
ACLU Disappointed With Supreme Court's Voter ID Decision (04/28/2008) WASHINGTON - In a 6-3 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court today rejected a challenge to Indiana's most-restrictive-in-the-nation voter identification law. The American Civil Liberties Union's case, Crawford v. Marion County Election Board - consolidated with Indiana Democratic Party v. Rokita - is an appeal of two lower court decisions that upheld the state's law requiring voters to present government-issued photo IDs in order to vote. The ACLU argued that the Indiana law creates an unconstitutional burden on voting rights.
Supreme Court Agrees to Review Indiana Voter ID Law (09/25/2007) WASHINGTON – The American Civil Liberties Union and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People welcomed today’s decision by the United States Supreme Court to grant review in Crawford v. Marion County Election Board. The case challenges Indiana’s voter ID law, which is the most restrictive in the nation.
Solitary Confinement Called "Inappropriate" for Mentally Ill Prisoners in Indiana (01/30/2007) INDIANAPOLIS-The American Civil Liberties Union National Prison Project and the ACLU of Indiana announced today that, as a result of a lawsuit filed by the ACLU, the Indiana Department of Correction has agreed to move all mentally ill prisoners out of the Secured Housing Unit (SHU), a "Supermax" unit where prisoners are forced to live in extreme isolation and sensory deprivation for months or even years.
ACLU of Indiana Announces New Executive Director (07/12/2006) INDIANAPOLIS -- The Board of Directors of the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana today announced the appointment of Claudia Peña Porretti as Executive Director, effective July 17, 2006. Porretti succeeds Fran Quigley, who has accepted a position as Director of Development and Operations for the Indiana University School of Medicine's Kenya Partnership.
ACLU of Indiana Urges Rejection of Anti-Immigrant Bill (01/27/2006) INDIANAPOLIS - The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana today urged state legislators and Governor Mitch Daniels to reject House Bill 1383, which would cut off many immigrants from public services, including health care, and would require law enforcement agencies to verify the status of suspected "illegal" aliens.

Hamilton today ordered the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Indiana General Assembly to stop permitting sectarian prayers from being offered as part of the official House proceedings.
ACLU Challenges Indianapolis Noise Ordinance (11/28/2005) INDIANAPOLIS – Acting on behalf of a the union leading a local “Justice for Janitors” campaign, the Indiana Civil Liberties Union today filed a lawsuit suit asking a federal court to declare Marion County’s noise ordinance unconstitutional and block the City of Indianapolis from enforcing the ordinance against the group.

Indiana State Bar Honors ICLU Legal Director with Public Service Award (10/14/2004) INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Civil Liberties Union announced today that ICLU Legal Director Ken Falk has been selected as this year's winner of the Indiana State Bar Association's Appellate Practice Section's public service award, named after the section's late chair David Hamacher.
