Immigrant Community a Boon to NebraskaMarisa Trevino at Latina Lista wrote earlier this month on a new report out of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, entitled “Nebraska’s Immigrant Population: Economic and Fiscal Impacts.” And whaddya know, it has similar findings to countless similar reports: it finds that immigrants, far from being fiscal drain on social services, pump millions of dollars into local economies and increase the number of jobs. Marisa writes: Looking at 2006 data, the researchers found that immigrant spending in the state resulted in an estimated $1.6 billion output to the Nebraska economy. The spending generated between 11,000 and 12,000 jobs in the state.Just the facts, everyone. More analysis here too as well.

I always hear what a boom these immigrants are to an economy, but I have to question that theory. Based on the fact that they typically work at depressed wages for both skilled and non-skilled jobs that would otherwise pay a higher wage to a legal immigrant or natural born worker. I would like to see the ACLU push for a similar hiring requirement in the USA that is used by mexican authorities when a non-citizen wants to work in their .
Their law simply requires that all job positions be filled by natural born citizens whenever possible and only by immigrants when their is not a citizen qualified and available for that job. If its what they think is fair then I agree.
