Freedom Alert: Why Marriage MattersThree Couples. Three minutes. They show us in their video why marriage matters. Why we must save the fundamental right to marry in California on Election Day.
There is a human cost when gay couples are denied the fundamental right to marry. The stories of three couples from New Mexico demonstrate what thousands of couples in California stand to lose if their right to marry is taken away on Election Day. It is important that we save marriage in California so couples in other states can have the hope to marry, too. Please forward and share this video with everyone you know in California and ask them to vote NO on Prop 8.

Unfortunately, as I'm 14 years old and a citizen of Ireland (Republic of) I'm unable to vote on proposition 8 in California. It's unfortunate that there are people who don't think marriage should be for any two people who are in love whether they're of the same sex or of opposite sexes.

Sodomy is perverted and against nature. Yeah, what we need is more sodomites destroying the fabric a western civilization. Two men engaging in anal sex is real natural or two women having oral sex. Yeah boy, that is so in line with nature. Hey, lets teach k-5 students about this like B. Hussein Nobama wants to. VOTE YES ON PROP 8

Gays have the same marriage rights as I do. With me being a man they have the right to marry a woman just like I do.

I equate the notion Gay Marriage with that of an abstract artist. I consider an artist to be someone of extrodinary talent like Picaso, Rembrandt, Rockwell, DaVinci, etc. Others will consider any moron who slaps together a toilet bowl with a photo of the Pope at the botom an artist. The notion minimizes art to somthing anyone can do. Marriage is, and has been between a man and a woman as long as man has existed. At no time in history has marriage been anything else. Now, a small percentage of the population want to descecrate the institution by calling any union marriage. If any two or more people want to have a civil union in which they can share benefits, property, etc, great. But calling a union of people of the same sex marriage, is like comparing crap to art. You might as well call apples oranges. They are both fruit, so why can't apples be oranges.

Maybe heterosexuals would be better served by focusing on their own marriages... given the incredible divorce rate, custody battles and children caught in the middle.

As a Californian I strongly oppose marriage for homosexuals. Marriage has 'always' been for those who can actually breed. Homosexuals should have equal legal rights, but they are not entilted to marriage as they are unable to reproduce or produce children as homosexuals. Homosexuality serves no purpose and adds nothing to the gene pool, so why do homosexuals feel they should be granted the right to marry, since marriage was originally created to protect children and the wives of heterosexual men?

I'm always confused about the argument of 'man + woman=marriage' - If it is the sanctity of it that everyone fears will be tarnished, then why shouldn't all marriage be regulated? If married, you shall remain married till death as promised and the vegas quick weddings that end the next day will be illegal. If you don't want to legalize gay marriage for reasons of intolerance based on a scapegoat argument of 'crap to art' if you will - then take a long hard look at what you are standing so strongly to defend. The argument fails when the foundation it is built upon has already crumbled.

Marriage is an ancient institution that did nothing but serve to link to people together. Marriage in the religious sense is specifically barred from be interfered with by the Bill of Rights. Marriage in terms of raising a family can be considered a government matter and in these terms, any couple willing to adopt and raise a child would fall into the conditions of marriage while couples who do not have children are not married regardless of sexuality.
Come up with arguments that are not biased and are not hypocritical if you want to argue against gay marriage or else just realize that you all are making irrelevant points and just continue to have your "opinion."

I am a member of the ACLU and if I lived in California on Election Day, I would vote against Prop 9. However, I believe both sides on this issue are right and both are wrong. The true civil libertarian is very simple: the government has no business recognizing any private relationships or giving any benefits to people in any relationships. I think the positions of the ACLU are inconsistant: you want the government out of our bedrooms, but in our marriages? The true civil libertarian position is to keep the State out of our bedrooms and our marriages. Although I would support Prop 9 because as long as the State recognizes marriage I think it should do so equally, civil marriages would still be discriminatory. The government would discriminate against those who are in plural relationships, non-married couples, and most of all single people. If the ACLU wants to uphold liberty and equality, it must address this.

US Constitution, Fourteenth Amendment, Section 1:
"...No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States: nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
So are we now going to change the Constitution of the United States so we can put start putting discrimination in it too?
I am a Christian, and can not and will not ever understand how those who voted for Prop 8 in Califoria can stand up for Christ and hate at the same time. Shame on all the Christians who voted for Prop 8 in California. When you stand before God you will have to explain why you made heaven impossible for so many people because of your fear, hatred and lies. God have mercy on your souls.

Prop 8 is going to pass and effectively ban gay marriage unless it's found unconstitutional. Time to take it to SCOTUS.

History is no guide to determine what is right; our past is littered with shameful acts of hate. We are supposed to be improving ourselves.
Denying them the right to marry means denying social security benefits, the ability to make life or death decisions for their family, custody and immigration rights.
Why wouldn't someone protest that?
If you don't approve of gay marriage, thats your own business. But eventually, you will be shamed out of flaunting your bigotted ideals like those who are still racist and sexist.

I think the ACLU should put a guide out of the legal rights of gay marriage,civil unions and domestic partnerships as well as the legal ramifications when two people want to dissolve the arrangement.A couple needs to know what they're getting into before the decide to get married or have a civil union or domestic partnership or what happens when they end it ,as far as community property,hospitalization, insurance, wills, property and other issues.It would be nice to have a guide to spell these things out.

'Marriage' is a union between two or more parties, not necessarily referring to procreation or love. 'Licensed' means taxed, presumably for oversight. My cat isn't licensed, but she is still a cat. A marriage doesn't need licensing to be 'real'. However, the legal ramifications of not allowing legal status to any humans desiring 'legal' marriage are tremendous. Our descendants will look upon this era as we do the middle ages.

I have to say I don't think there should be government involvement in marriage at all- just civil unions. As I recall there is something about give unto God what is God's and unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's. The Church can decide whether or not to perform any religous rites.
As for the 'Old Testament says homosexuality is evil' - have you ever read Leviticus? Tell you what, if you keep Kosher and keep the Sabbath, then you can talk about Old Testament. As I recall Jesus brought the message that God loves all of his children and that any judgement will be done by Him in the Kingdom of Heaven. I know this isn't Heaven, and I'm betting you aren't Jesus; so please just stop.
