Familiar Story: CIA Destroys More Tapes

Back in December 2007, we learned that the CIA had destroyed two videotapes depicting the "harsh interrogation" of two detainees in U.S. custody. This morning, we learned those two tapes were the tip of the proverbial iceberg: the CIA has actually destroyed 92 tapes. Those tapes are directly responsive to the ACLU's October 2003 Freedom of Information Act request asking the government to release all documents and information pertaining to the treatment of detainees held in U.S. custody overseas.

We'll have more soon.

    That's just disgusting. The war in Afghanistan is still not over, the war in Iraq brought in the recession, and now 92 tapes of torture footage have been destroyed, which only goes to evidence how we're not really "winning" this war here. Something's got to change and soon.

    They should have remembered that it was
    obstruction of justice that brought down Nixon.

    It is a shame that the 4 girls were killed but at least we have the people at the ACLU to thank for protecting the rights of the suicide bombing terrorists !!!!!

    March 3 (Bloomberg) -- A suicide bomber killed five people, including four students, at a religious school for girls in southwestern Pakistan, state-run media reported.
    The bombing took place yesterday in Baluchistan province, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Quetta, the official Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
    The bomber may have been targeting the local head of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party and other dignitaries, who were attending an award ceremony at the school in Pishin district and left before the blast, according to the report.
    President Asif Ali Zardari, whose government is under pressure from the U.S. to crack down on Islamic extremists, condemned the attack and said it wouldn’t dent his government’s resolve to fight terrorism.

    I am not really sure about all of this, however I do believe that by releasing these tapes you are taking away our right to the pursuit of happiness for our families and future generations. Sometimes during a war there are things that the people do not have a right to know. It seems now that we are freeing these people and some how it is our fault that they are there in the first place. Hello, had they not been fighting us they would not be there!!!
    I think if you look back in history you will find that Roosevelt and Lincoln did not release everything.

  8. Bill Says:

    The ACLU has no jurisdiction in this case. The men interrogated are not on American soil and are Terrorists. These people would much rather kill themselves and take our country men with them. There is no reason why we shouldn't harshly interrogate them. This is what the CIA has done since the Cold War, and it has kept us safe.

    * Silent, covert microwave radiation weapons assaults on innocent but "targeted" U.S. citizens;

    * Terroristic vigilante community gang stalking, surreptitious home entry, police-tolerated vandalism;

    * Secret federal "programs of personal financial destruction."

    Hey Peter there are many nations that match your world view. Funny thing is, they are all Dictatorships. Also Post numbers 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9, normally we would call this spam, especially since #5 is a lie based on the content of #3 and #4.

    Whatever you do, don't post a 3d animation depicting the statue of liberty exploding after applying for a job with the National Security Agency...

    Talk about discrimination...
