Torture Memos vs. Red Cross Report
If you’ve read the torture memos, you’ve probably noticed the technical and detached language used by government lawyers to describe and authorize specific interrogation techniques, including facial slaps, stress positions, sleep deprivation, nudity and waterboarding. Compared against prisoners’ own accounts of their treatment, the differences between descriptions are striking.
Based on research compiled by the ACLU’s Alex Abdo and Leila Tabbaa, today ProPublica launched a new web page that features a side-by-side comparison of the “torture techniques” from the memos to prisoners’ own accounts of these same techniques from the Red Cross report (PDF). The details speak for themselves.

Head on over to ProPublica and check it out.
In related news, yesterday the Defense Department announced that by the end of May, it will make public a “substantial number” of photos depicting the abuse of prisoners by U.S. personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan at locations other than Abu Ghraib. The photos are being turned over as part of the ACLU’s ongoing Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.

Detention without trial is nothing less
than kidnapping and torture is as about as criminal of an act that a person can commit even if sanctioned by the state.
Yes terrorists need to be punished but
obviously they are not the only criminals involved in this war.

What will the ACLU have to say when it is revealed that many of the Democrats high officials were advised of the interrogation methods and did nothing. Will the same rules apply? Even for Pelosi?

I just don't understand you people. You are all over the US for acts of war but yet the BAD guys do things 10 times as bad and you don't seem to care. I think that beheading is far more serious than anything we have done. Why not concentrate your efforts on those type actions?

I have only read the first memo, but it occurs to me that it is written in a vacuum: How does the interrogator get the prisoner into a position? How much kicking and arm-twisting is necessary, or does the person volunteer to be strapped to a gurney to be waterboarded? What threats or physical assault techniques are used to implement the approved techniques of interrogation? Is there a gun to his head? Isn't that in itself a threat and intent to cause mental harm (but they would say, not long-term)?

I am warmed to see that we ACLU supporters can take to believing men like Zubaydah (who want to destroy America) over our fellow Americans. It's comforting to know that we have no limits to which we will sink to attack the Republicans and George Bush. I'm proud of the ACLU, it takes a special emptiness mixed with bitter senselessness to pull off such a stunt. Cheers!

The point wasn't to punish these military combatents, it was to gather information that they had, to prevent more inicent people from getting killed. Remember the Americans that were blind folded, tortured and then beheaded....not to mention the one's that died on 9/11. Those people were tortured. How many have died as a result of our interigation techniques?

Let Us Now Gather Like Buzzards And Pick The Flesh From The People Who Protected Us From Terrorist's Since 9/11. Let Us Be Good Left Wing Democrats And Purge The People That We Have Hated In The Past As The Nazi Party Did And As All Despot Governments Of The World Have Done In The Past. Do Not Look Forward As President Obama Promised But Let Us Keep Our Sight On The Past And Forget The Terrible Problems That Are Now And Ahead Of Us. Taste That Sweet Flesh, But Remember That Buzzard's Vomit Up That Flesh Now And Then. Nancy Pelosi Will Soon Become Sick At Her Stomach.

You call it torture......I say it is an effective means of extracting information!
And many of these subjects that the info is extracted from....want YOU DEAD!
Thats right....DEAD! And they wouldn't think twice about hiding behind a MAN...WOMAN or CHILD to KILL YOU! They would just as soon come at you like a thief in the night. They are hardened and trained for 1 purpose.....to KILL.
Once you get that instilled in your Brainhousings....you might want to read the ART OF WAR by TSUN TSU!
These terrorists were caught on a battlefield....thats right, a battlefield. But 1 where only our troops and allies wear uniforms. The Enemies dress as civilians and hit and run to evade. In fact...some that were set free were captured again.
I think the 1's really being tortured are the TROOPS who have to follow a flawed ROE and give many of these Enemies a Pass.
Its easy to sit on the sideline and judge what you cannot fathom! Thats what is bringing this Once great Nation to her knees. But you want to know what really cracks me up??
The people like you who spew whats right and wrong will be the first to scream bloody murder for protection when the enemy comes for you.
Then you would hope we would employ any means available to save your asses!!
Well believe this....The troops are about fed up with the PC know it all Public.
There is a storm coming.....where will you find shelter.........

Shame on the Bush administration for "torturing" men who want to kill thousands of people to further their religion.
Shame on Bush for keeping us safe after 9/11 when no one thought it was possible.
Shame on the Bush administration for telling the Speaker of the House the kinds of torture techniques they were using on prisoners to keep us safe (oops, no one was supposed to know about that)
Cheers to the ACLU for going after an administration for "torturing" men (or animals) that want to destroy our civil liberties. Who cares about civil liberties anyway.
Cheers to the ACLU for starting a website that is torture in itself to read.
GO ACLU!! You guys are doing a great job supporting the people who are actually wanting to destroy the thing you are fighting for.

23 years in the Army and I'm getting out now. I'm through defending this country only to wake up to all of the hatred spewing from the left. It just isn't worth protecting anymore. The next time a plane slams into a building call the ACLU for protection. I won't answer the call. Good luck America.

I am so sick of listening to these bleeding heart liberals that say these monsters called terrorists have rights. They enter the country illegally, kill our innocent civilians, and when we pour a little water on their faces the muslim loving Obama administration wants to prosecute. They can bomb our men women and children, behead innocent journalists and threaten us with future chemical warfare and Obama and that dumb a** Naplolitano wants us to call those acts "man caused disasters" instead of what they really are...acts of terrorism! They inflict terror and kill! What the hell is wrong with you people? Are you really that ignorant and naive? I could care less if they killed every terrorist that is in this country. You imbicils support this bs and want people prosecuted? If you feel that close to these animals then go to the middle east and live there because you don't deserve to live in the US or be called an American!!
