Maine's Sen. Collins Will Protect Reproductive Choice

The Maine delegation just had a very positive meeting with Sen. Susan Collins' staff. We were assured that Sen. Collins will continue to support reproductive choice for women and has no intention to vote for any Stupak-like amendments!

If you're from Maine — please send a BIG message of thanks to Sen. Collins for standing strong and for her continued support of women's full access to health care!

If you're from any other state — contact your Senator and tell them to do the same!

Why is abortion so important to the ACLU? I don't believe that abortion should be used as a form of birth control. Denying a baby to live because it was an oops baby is wrong. Think about the real issue don't think about political reasons or religous reasons. The real issue is allowing babies to be aborted because a couple was too irresponsible to think about the consequences of having sex. This rant does not apply to rape cases of abortion. I still do not know how to stand on that issue.

anon #1...IMHO, the rights of the mother are paramount and education is the key to reducing abortion. Unfortunately, and again IMHO, most of the anti-abortion leaders care more for power than for people. They demonstrate this by their stands for capital punishment and war, and against funding comprehensive sex education and pre- and post-natal care. Where do you stand on taking fetuses with severe birth defects, leading to a short, pain-filled life, to term? Where do you draw the line on "severe", "short", and "pain-filled"? Why should the rest of us need to live by anyone else's definition? I see the ACLU as trying to restore the balance.
