Confronting Potential Obstacles Facing Voters
The headlines describing potential obstacles to voting this year seem to mount by the day. There have been numerous reports, for example, on the dissemination of misinformation about students’ voting rights and efforts by political parties to dissuade certain voters from turning up at the polls on Election Day. Last week The New York Times reported that election officials in at least six states are improperly purging tens of thousands of eligible voters from the polls.
The American Constitution Society for Law and Policy (ACS) and the American University Washington College of Law recently hosted a panel discussion of experts on election law and the array of potential issues in the upcoming elections. During the panel discussion, which was Web cast live, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund’s Kristen Clark, said voting intimidation and suppression are alive and well in this election cycle. Clark pointed to an effort in Michigan aimed at discouraging citizens whose homes have been foreclosed from voting and noted that her organization has heard of misleading information suggesting that people with parking tickets could face arrest if they turned up to vote.
The Brennan Center’s Wendy Weiser also cited incidents in Virginia and Colorado where election officials have distributed misleading information about the voting rights of students. The entire panel discussion can be viewed here. The panel discussion was preceded by the creation of new ACS Web page providing educational voting rights information for students.

In light of the world financial crisis, taxpayers will take exceptional measures and let their government know that they have to live by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. I am fed-up with our leadership and will give them on Election Day a “no confidence vote“. This means that I have no confidence as a voter and will not vote in this election. What other choice do I really have when my elected representatives ignore the law of the land. As American citizens we are free to say whatever stupid, wrong, ill-informed, offensive thing we want. We’re free to encourage others to join us. And the government has to let us. It’s called Freedom of Speech, and it’s right there in the very first amendment to the Constitution.” Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
A message to peaceful and common sense citizens
Bring to reason - a taxpayer response
How stupid politicians and the media think taxpayers are, when they constantly trying to impress them with record campaign spending, contributions and financial bailouts. The taxpayer situation is serious. We should make headlines. Taxpayers should organize now and communicate dissatisfaction to their representatives, regardless of party affiliations. Does anybody believe that the Republicans would win this time around? John McCain is a gracious exit show after a well-done job of George W. Bush Administration (Whoever wanted him 2000 in the White House) Since the Independence of America, we the people cannot take a chance (I have my suspicions) with an Independent candidate, so we need the Democrats to pull us out of this mess. We are up against the status quo. Americans live in a Constitutional Republic, were taxpayers could organize a tax revolution. Why not start now before it‘s too late. May be we should use our 1st Amendment right and peaceably assemble a “No confidence vote” What could happen, if this election would have the lowest turnout in the history of the United States of America? A political embarrassment? May be helplessness? How would the media respond? At least “we the people” have spoken and can now call ourselves a democracy . I do not care any longer of what I hear about the election or read about the financial disaster. American Taxpayers became helpless because politics and business joined hands for self-interest and the media appeases both sides. Taxpayers did not create the ways and means of interest what ended in a financial disaster and with more to come. On Election Day I call for a peaceful “First Amendment” Taxpayers Revolution. Only we can put an end to the failure of our political system. From now on, taxpayers must challenge their government and media to make them both live up to our constitutional rights. If you feel as upset as I am, join me and look at the websites www.voice-consensus.com and www.givemeliberty.org, contact your local and national taxpayer organizations and talk to your relatives, friends and neighbors. Remember if a couple million citizens get going, the rest will come along later. Let us break all party barriers and start protecting our own interest “A fair taxation system“. Klaus Todte
