LGBT people will not be equal until
same-sex couples are given the same respect and the
same legal rights that heterosexual couples get. Unfortunately,
even many people who otherwise support LGBT equality
are opposed to same-sex marriage, or even civil equality
for gay couples.
Today, 39 states have enacted laws
defining marriage as only between a man and a woman.
Fortunately, our judicial
system is not completely controlled by anti-gay opinions.
Lawsuits are now being fought across the country that
may make same-sex marriage a reality soon -- one state
at a time. The legal fight for civil equality for
same-sex couples and for same-sex marriage is just
beginning.

Get Informed: The TaskForce has
set up the Marriage Resource Center
to help individuals and organizations to fight for the right
of same-sex couples to marry.
Tell Congress "No" on the Anti-Gay Couples
Amendment: Unfortunately, the idea of same-sex marriage
is so controversial that a Constitutional amendment has
beenproposed that would ban same-sex marriage, civil unions,
and comprehensive domestic partnership. Let your representatives
know that you support same-sex couples and oppose writing
a ban on same-sex marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnerships
into our Constitution.
Tell Congress "Yes" on Bi-National Couples: Under
current U.S. immigration law, straight Americans who choose
to marry can sponsor their spouses for citizenship, yet
LGBT Americans who don't have the option of marriage are
denied this right. Tell your representatives that you favor
the "Permanent Partners Immigration Act" that would put
same-sex couples on par with married couples.
