The
ACLU Lesbian & Gay Rights Project seeks to expand legal
protections for transgender people. To do this, we take on
cases that will not only extend existing civil rights laws
to transgender people but also help persuade the general public
that civil rights should be accorded to transgender Americans.
Here’s
how you can help. If you have recently experienced discrimination
based on gender identity or expression, we’d like you
to tell us about it by using our Report
Discrimination form. What you tell us on this
form is confidential; no one outside of the ACLU will be told
about what you tell us unless we first get your permission
to do so.
We
will review what you’ve told us and will get back to
you to let you know whether we’re able to pursue your
case on your behalf. Because we only take cases that promise
to have a broad impact on the rights of transgender people,
you should know that we are not able to represent most people
who contact us.
We
are interested in all types of gender identity discrimination
– in the workplace, in schools, in custody and visitation
disputes over children, etc. You can get a general idea of
the type of case we’re looking for from the transgender
docket in our case
profiles.
