HRP uses human rights standards and strategies to complement ACLU legal and legislative advocacy and to advance social justice in the area of immigrants’ rights.

Immigrants constitute a vulnerable population in the United States and protecting the human rights of immigrants and non-citizens is a critical American value.

International human rights law requires the United States to apply its workplace protections equally and without discrimination based on immigration status. U.S. immigration policies including detention and treatment of individuals must conform to U.S. human rights commitments and treaty obligations. The U.S. government should reform immigration policy immediately; ensure its compliance with human rights standards; and ensure it does not have a disparate impact upon persons on the basis of race, color, descent, or national or ethnic origin.

Working together with the ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project, HRP works to promote and protect the rights of immigrants by:

· Publishing reports and briefing materials on the human rights of immigrants and migrants in the U.S.;
· incorporating human rights standards in litigation and state and federal legislative advocacy; and engaging with the United States before U.N. and regional human rights fora.
