Biography of Lorena Fernandez

Lorena Fernandez is a paralegal at the San Francisco office of ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project.  Prior to coming to IRP, she was a legal assistant at another national ACLU project, the Criminal Law Reform Project in Santa Cruz, where she was committed to ending punitive drug policies.  Before joining the ACLU, Lorena worked as a legal assistant for the Center for Reproductive Rights, supporting attorneys who utilized law to advance reproductive freedoms in the U.S.  Lorena has also assisted asylum-seekers at Human Rights First and served as a development assistant and bilingual legal advocate for a local domestic violence agency in New Jersey.  She’s a graduate of George Washington University with a major in Anthropology, focusing on Latin America.  Aside from her civil liberties passions, she enjoys traveling, gardening and learning French.
