PROVIDENCE--The American Civil Liberties Union of Rhode Island announced today that it has called on local hospitals to reject anticipated earmarked federal funding that would require health care providers to determine the citizenship status of each uninsured patient seeking treatment.

ALBUQUERQUE -- The American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico today hailed a unanimous decision by the State Supreme Court requiring that immigrants be told they could be deported if they plead guilty to a crime.

ACLU Presses Government for Information on Immigration Sweeps (08/23/2004)
SEATTLE -- The American Civil Liberties Union of Washington today filed a freedom of information request with the federal Department of Homeland Security's Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) seeking information about recent immigration sweeps across the state. The ACLU also filed a request with the Washington Department of Corrections and the Pierce County Sheriff's Office for information about the involvement of their officers in the sweeps.

NEW YORK -- The American Civil Liberties Union and New York Civil Liberties Union today won a significant victory in their 10-month struggle to obtain records on the abuse of prisoners held by the United States at detention facilities overseas. In a stinging rebuke, a federal judge ordered the administration to begin honoring an ACLU request under the Freedom of Information Act, saying that the government had dragged its feet for far too long.

PROVIDENCE, RI -- The American Civil Liberties Union of Rhode Island announced today that it has filed a complaint with the U.S. Justice Department's Civil Rights Division against the state for failing to provide sufficient interpreter services for the 20,000 defendants with limited English proficiency who are involved in criminal court proceedings each year.

ACLU Warns of Resurrecting 'Voluntary' Interview Program; Arab and Muslim Communities Should Not be Targets of Racial Profiling (06/22/2004)
