Bookkeeping Services
 
The American Civil Liberties Union of Alaska invites proposals for Provision of Bookkeeping Services. 
 
The ACLU of Alaska and ACLU of Alaska Foundation are nonprofit and nonpartisan 501(c) organizations dedicated to advancing the cause of civil liberties in Alaska through public education, legal action, legislative and political advocacy, and coalition building and grassroots organizing. We are affiliated with the American Civil Liberties Union and ACLU Foundation, the nation's oldest and largest organizations dedicated to advocacy, public education, and litigation in support of constitutional rights and civil liberties. 
 
Services Sought:
The individual or organization providing bookkeeping services will interface with the Executive Director, and coordinate with the Managing Director, on completion of the following tasks:
  • General bookkeeping and accounting functions associated with a non-profit organization, using QuickBooks software.
  • Processing of accounts payable and receivable, bills for payment, income and donations, and preparation of checks.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of bank statements and credit card expenses.
  • Prepare regular financial statements for review by the Executive Director, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Directors.
  • Establishment of annual Budgets and Charts of Accounts based on data provided by Executive Director and Finance Committee.
  • Assist in preparation of draft financial statements for annual audits, and for tax filings.
  • Assist with other duties and projects related to organizational financial activity as directed by the Executive Director.
  • Complete, or provide financial statements for completion of, governmental reports including, APOC reports, charitable gaming reports, quarterly and annual payroll reports.
  • Prepare other reports and documents as needed at request of Executive Director.
 
Qualifications:
  • Superior proficiency with QuickBooks.
  • Superior knowledge of GAAP, and accrual basis accounting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software package.
  • Proficiency with computers.
  • Minimum 7 years bookkeeping and accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of federal payroll reporting and automated entry systems, and State of Alaska employment reporting systems.
  • Familiarity with non-profit organizations and accounting rules.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Alaska charitable gaming and APOC reports is preferred.
  • Ability to learn proprietary accounting procedures and ACLU policies regarding management and reporting of charitable donations.
  • Must be organized and able to meet firm reporting deadlines.
  • Must be attentive to detail.
  • Superior verbal communication skills
