The American Civil Liberties Union is a national public interest organization devoted to the defense of the Bill of Rights. The Communications Department of the National Office in Washington, D.C. is seeking a full-time Communications Coordinator who will report to the Director of Communications.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain the department’s budget; track budget expenditures; process invoices and prepare expense reports.
- Provide a high level of support and coordination to the Director of Communications and occasionally to other staff in department and the Manager of Legislative Communications.
- Conduct research and analysis as requested by the Director.
- Write, proofread and edit letters, memos, reports and other internal and external communications.
- Prepare briefing materials to apprise the Director of upcoming meetings and other events; ensure that the Director has up-to-date, detailed information about events including a current agenda and itinerary.
- Respond to phone calls, letters and other communications for the Director.
- Create and maintain electronic and paper filing systems.
- Undertake special projects as requested by the Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years related experience or an equivalent level of work experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to demonstrate professionalism and tact in communication with members of the ACLU board and individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously, often under strict deadlines.
- Must be highly proficient in all Microsoft Office programs including Excel and Power Point.
- High level of attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have a strong commitment to the mission of the ACLU.
COMPENSATION:

commensurate with experience and within parameters of ACLU compensation scale.
