The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a national not-for-profit public interest organization devoted to defense of the Bill of Rights. The ACLU has an online audience of 400,000 people and numerous online initiatives to engage with our list. The ACLU Membership Department is seeking a Fall Online Marketing Intern.
INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:
Working closely with the Online Outreach and Fundraising Manager, the Online Marketing Intern will assist with the production and execution of email and web campaigns to increase subscriber engagement, online giving and the conversion of web visitors to subscribers, members and online activists. This position is within the Development Department.
Interns will be able to gain firsthand knowledge about our online marketing strategies, including outbound emails, user flows and online advertising. Interns will work closely with the Online Outreach and Fundraising Manager and the Online Outreach Coordinator.
A commitment of 10 weeks is requested, although the specific length and terms of the internship will be negotiated when an offer is made. This internship is unpaid, with the opportunity to earn school credit, if applicable.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist with creative assets, production and distribution of regular outbound emails and newsletter programs.
• Pull statistics, analysis and reports on email performance and online marketing efforts using Application Service Provider software and other programs as necessary, including Excel.
• Implement and monitor test plans, metrics and analysis of online fundraising and constituent mobilization campaigns.
• Using ACLU's Application Service Provider, implement emails in both HTML and text and ensure emails resolve in commonly used web browsers.
• Assist with determining user flow for outbound emails, write/edit key copy for campaign pages and set up landing pages.
• Research new technologies and techniques for online outreach.
• Other projects as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Undergraduate/Graduate students.
• Skilled in using HTML editing software (ability to interpret HTML code without help of a WYSIWYG editor).
• Experience with editing website pages.
• Basic understanding of Web and email marketing.
• Basic understanding of databases and data flow (queries, sync, groups, suppressions).
• Basic skills with Excel, Access and Photoshop.
• Experience adjusting graphics for use in HTML production.
