The American Civil Liberties Union fights to preserve and promote the rights guaranteed to all by the Bill of Rights. Through advocacy, education and litigation, our attorneys, advocates and volunteers work to preserve and promote civil liberties including the freedom of speech, the right to privacy, reproductive freedom, and equal treatment under the law.

The Clara Bell Duvall Reproductive Freedom Project was founded in 1979 by Linn Duvall Harwell in response to her mother's tragic death as a result of a self-induced abortion in 1929. As part of the ACLU of Pennsylvania, the Duvall Project is dedicated to ensuring that all individuals in Pennsylvania and the U.S. have access to safe and legal reproductive health programs, regardless of their age, race/ethnicity, religion, or socio-economic status. The Duvall Project works to achieve this goal through education and advocacy.

This summer, the Duvall Project is offering a summer law student internship that will be focused on developing strategies – both legal and otherwise – to address the difficulties faced by pregnant and parenting teenagers, with a particular focus on access to educational opportunities.

This internship is separate from, and will not involve the same amount of purely “legal” work, as a standard summer law student internship. In addition to legal research and writing, the intern will conduct factual and policy research, help to coordinate with potential collaborative partners, and potentially help with outreach to potential clients through preparation of public education materials and other strategies.

Interested students should send a cover letter or email (headed “Duvall Legal Internship”), resume, most recent law school transcript and legal writing sample to info@aclupa.org no later than March 1, 2008.
