OVERVIEW:
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a national nonprofit
public interest organization devoted to the defense of the Bill of Rights, invites
applications for the full-time position of Graphic Designer
to work in the Communications Department in our National Office in New York.
The Graphic Designer will work under the supervision of the Editorial Coordinator.
The ideal candidate for this position is a creative and flexible individual,
skilled at implementing design projects from conceptualization through production.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and maintain ACLU marketing materials; Design and illustrate materials
for printed publications including pamphlets, brochures, reports, books, DVD
and CD packaging, etc.
- Design and maintain websites and web pages to promote ACLU messages and
overall ACLU mission.
- Collaborate with ACLU projects and programs to design and produce materials
for campaign use ensuring message is accurately delivered.
- Work strategically with ACLU projects, Affiliate Support, Communications
and Development departments to create and design materials, displays and advertising
for Membership and Staff Conferences.
- Oversee design consistency throughout ACLU departments, projects and programs.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or 2-3 years work experience preferred.
- A complete working knowledge of both print production and graphic design
for the Web.
- Macintosh platform technical expertise.
- Experience working with QuarkXPress, InDesign Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop,
Adobe Image Ready, Flash and Adobe Acrobat.
- Thorough knowledge in pre-production and pre-flight areas, including color
handling and scanning.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and complete tasks under deadline in a
busy work environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills
and organizational skills.
- Interest in civil liberties and civil rights highly desirable.
COMPENSATION:
The ACLU offers a generous and comprehensive compensation and benefits package,
commensurate with experience and within parameters of the ACLU compensation
scale.
