Temporary, Part-time Outreach Coordinator for
ACLU-NC Death Penalty Project

ACLU-NC seeks a temporary, part-time Outreach Coordinator for its death penalty project, specifically to work with the new Alameda County Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (ACCADP). The goal of ACCADP is to end use of the death penalty in the county. The Outreach Coordinator will be employed by the ACLU-NC, but will focus exclusively on the work of the ACCADP.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities of the Outreach Coordinator will include:

  • Coordinating a resolution campaign in Alameda County, including outreach to important local groups in the county;
  • Organizing public education events and presentations for local groups in the county, maximizing the impact of each event;
  • Working with local activists—providing opportunities for activists to be engaged in the county;
  • Creating Alameda County specific public education tools in a variety of mediums (e.g., web content, brochures, fact sheets, PSAs);
  • Coordinating outreach to identified community leaders;
  • Attending and assisting in running monthly coalition meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate must be passionate about ending the use of the death penalty in California, with a demonstrated ability to work independently. In addition, strong preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:

  • Relevant experience in Alameda County, including experience working or volunteering for community groups, law enforcement, elected officials, or legal organizations in the county; and
  • Experience working with survivors of murder victims and/or communities significantly impacted by violent crime.

Other qualifications include:

  • Strong leadership skills;
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written;
  • Experience with political campaigns, activism, grassroots organizations, and/or lobbying;
  • Experience working collaboratively and effectively with a variety of individuals – attorneys, activists, politicians, media, etc.;
  • Experience working with a broad and diverse range of constituencies;
  • Energy, enthusiasm, creativity;
  • High level of comfort with computers and adapting to new technology;
  • Ability to speak and write Spanish or Cantonese preferred.

COMPENSATION AND HOURS:
$20/hour, 20 hours/week. Exact schedule is negotiable—some nights and weekends will be required. The Outreach Coordinator will work at the ACLU-NC office in San Francisco, but must be willing and able to travel throughout Alameda County.

This position is currently funded for six months. We are actively seeking additional funding to extend the position.
