Manager of Online Advocacy
The Manager of Online Advocacy coordinates the ACLU of Illinois’ online
communications, advocacy and fundraising, and facilitates inter-departmental
collaboration to advance the mission of the ACLU, working in concert with our
legal, legislative, communications, development and field staff. This key staff
member is also responsible for providing and overseeing IT support.
Technology Responsibilities:
- Work with computer consultants to support, maintain and configure computers,
printers, servers, peripherals and software including regular back-ups, managing
and creating user accounts and passwords, monitoring system health, and ensuring
up-to-date virus and anti-spam protection.
- Coordinate, purchase and install hardware and software to improve office
efficiency. Assist in formulating plans and budget for future technology endeavors
and acquisitions.
- Identify and find solutions for office database problems and needs.
- Serve as the Help Desk for staff, troubleshoot to solve technology problems
and where possible help staff build skills.
- Maintain a summary of our system, software licenses, and an inventory of
office equipment. Identify new & emerging technology and recommend appropriate
application.
Communications Responsibilities:
- Support and maintain content for the ACLU of Illinois website and work with
staff to redesign as necessary; provide layout and design support for the
ACLU of Illinois newsletter.
- Assist in creation and management of online initiatives as a tool for activists
to advance ACLU of Illinois program goals, including developing content for
action alerts, the ACLU e-newsletter, advocacy and fundraising communications.
- Work with cross-departmental team to execute tactics for consistent and
concerted online mobilization and outreach program.
Qualifications:
- A profound and well-articulated commitment to social justice.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Professional experience with online media advocacy and outreach, preferably
with an advocacy-oriented, non-profit organization.
- Effective and proven team process and project management experience.
- Excellent computer & internet skills including MS Office, HTML, Convio,
Blackbaud (Raiser’s Edge) and Adobe graphics programs.
- Excellent verbal, written, research and interpersonal communication skills.
- A keen eye for design, page layout and general presentation.
- Detail oriented with strong follow-through, demonstrated ability to solve
problems, ability to meet tight deadlines and manage resources effectively.
- Solid understanding of Internet tools, processes and techniques for membership
development, advocacy campaigns, list building and social networking.
- Experience with online marketing and cross-channel marketing in for-profit
or non-profit settings is desirable.

Salary is commensurate with experience, within the parameters of the ACLU compensation
scale. Excellent benefits package provided.
