ACLU of Virginia Asks Judge to Rule that State Law Criminalizing Adultery is Unconstitutional (02/25/2004)
LURAY, VA.-- The American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia today said that it will represent attorney John Bushey, Jr., in appealing a state law criminalizing adultery as a misdemeanor. Bushey earlier pled guilty to violating Virginia's adultery statute, but reserved his right to challenge the law on the grounds that criminalizing adultery violates the constitutional right to privacy.
ACLU Calls Bush Support for Marriage Amendment Un-American; Proposal Would Write Discrimination Into the Constitution (02/24/2004)
WASHINGTON - Responding to President Bush's official endorsement this morning of a constitutional amendment to deny marriage rights to same-sex and unmarried couples, the American Civil Liberties Union said that the amendment supported by the White House is much broader than advertised and would not only ban civil unions but could completely deny a broad range of government benefits to unmarried couples, be they gay or straight.
Matt Coles and Leslie Cooper Receive the National Lesbian and Gay Law Foundation's Highest Honor (10/22/2003)
NEW YORK - Matt Coles and Leslie Cooper of the American Civil Liberties Union's Lesbian and Gay Rights Project have received the National Lesbian and Gay Law Foundation's (NLGLF) highest honor, the Dan Bradley Award, for their efforts to challenge the Florida law that prohibits lesbians and gay men from adopting. The award was presented during the NLGLF's annual Lavender Law Conference at a luncheon in New York on October 18, 2003.

ACLU Attorney Comes to San Francisco to Lead Gay Rights Work in the West (07/28/2003)
NEW YORK - The American Civil Liberties Union has assigned noted gay rights attorney Tamara Lange to San Francisco to lead the ACLU's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights work in the western states. Lange has been an attorney for the ACLU's Lesbian and Gay Rights and AIDS Projects in New York since 2001.
