The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a national not-for-profit public interest organization devoted to defense of the Bill of Rights is seeking applicants for a full-time Accountant in its Accounting Department to work under direct supervision of the Controller/Director of Accounting.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare, code and enter accounting transactions;
- Prepare monthly income and expenditure statements and schedules;
- Prepare and distribute tax forms on a monthly and annual basis;
- Assist the Controller/Director of Accounting with preparation and review of year-end audit schedules;
- Maintain records for departments/projects, prepare income and expense statements as necessary;
- Maintain bank accounts; review and reconcile bank statements;
- Reconcile affiliate revenue payments; respond to affiliate inquiries regarding such payments;
- Prepare various schedules, spreadsheets and reports as requested by the Controller/Director of Accounting;
- Assist with the development and preparation of recurring project financial reports, work with the Controller to research/follow up on issues and resolve discrepancies as necessary
- Record, analyze and reconcile credit card contributions;
- Review and edit accounting entries before posting;
- Analyze, review and adjust general ledger accounts;
- Undertake special projects as assigned by the Controller/Director of Accounting.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors’ degree in Accounting required;
- Applicant must have a minimum of 5 years’ accounting experience, preferably in non-profits organizations;
- Strong organizational skills, excellent attention to details and ability to multitask;
- Demonstrated ability to work well with colleagues and with staff at all levels within the organization;
- Knowledge of Word, Excel and non-profit accounting software in Windows environment;
- Possessing initiative, ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
