The Technology & Liberty Program monitors the interplay between cutting-edge technology and civil liberties, actively promoting responsible uses of technology that enhance privacy and freedom, while opposing those that undermine our freedoms and move us closer to a surveillance society.
Academic
freedom and scientific inquiry have come under sustained assault since September
11, 2001. Spurred by misguided and often disingenuous security concerns, the
Bush Administration has sought to impose growing restrictions on the free flow
of scientific information, unreasonable barriers to the use of scientific materials,
and increased monitoring of and restrictions on foreign university students.
