Groups Launch Campaign to Ensure That Ohio Youth Have Access to Lawyers (04/18/2007)
COLUMBUS, OH - As the Supreme Court of Ohio today heard arguments on protecting children’s right to counsel, the American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Ohio, the Children’s Law Center and the Office of the Ohio Public Defender announced a statewide campaign to inform young people of their rights.

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - The American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia filed a lawsuit today against Barry Davis, owner of the Kokoamos Island Bar, Grill and Yacht Club, challenging a policy that prohibits persons wearing braids, twists, cornrows or dreadlocks from entering the Virginia Beach nightspot. According to papers filed in federal court, the policy discriminates on the basis of race because it targets hairstyles predominately worn by African Americans.
ACLU of West Virginia Praises Government Reinstatement of Iranian Couple (12/18/2006)
MORGANTOWN, WV - The American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia today announced that is has reached an agreement with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to reinstate an Iranian Muslim couple who had been unjustly terminated from their positions at NIOSH for undefined “security” reasons. Aliakbar and Shahla Afshari will receive back pay and benefits as well as damages to compensate them for the loss of income, humiliation, and emotional distress they suffered as a result of the terminations.

ACLU of New Mexico Files for Motion Against Local Police in Ongoing Discrimination Case (04/20/2005)
SANTA FE, NM -- The American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico today asked federal court judge Martha Vasquez to declare Hobbs city officials in ""substantial non-compliance"" with a court-endorsed agreement requiring the police department to stop discriminating and to uphold the constitutional rights of African Americans. The motion also asks the court to initiate contempt proceedings for the city's failure to address a previous finding of non-compliance by Judge Vasquez under the terms of a 2001 settlement agreement.
Noted Scholar Kimberle Crenshaw Begins Two-Year Fellowship at ACLU (01/24/2005)
NEW YORK -- The American Civil Liberties Union today announced that noted legal scholar and activist Kimberlé Crenshaw began her tenure today as an Ira Glasser Racial Justice Fellow. Crenshaw is one of six inaugural recipients of the Fellowship, which is designed to address enduring racial inequalities, including social and economic inequalities caused by historical and current discrimination. The Fellows Program provides support for individuals whose work will advance the ACLU's longstanding commitment to racial justice. Crenshaw was awarded the Fellowship in March of 2004.
ACLU of Arkansas Successfully Blocks Biased Dress Code for Visitors to Public Housing Units (07/01/2004)
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Responding to a challenge from the American Civil Liberties Union of Arkansas, the city of North Little Rock decided Monday not to impose an unconstitutional dress code on visitors to public housing units that would prohibit entry to anyone wearing backward baseball caps, saggy pants or bandanas.
