Courts have made it clear that being incarcerated doesn’t mean a woman gives up her right to have an abortion any more than it means that she gives up her right to bear a child. Evidence Once Again Shows Abstinence-Only-Until-Marriage Programs Dont Work (4/23/2008)
Washington, DC – The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will hold a hearing today titled "Domestic Abstinence-Only Programs: Assessing the Evidence." The ACLU applauds Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) for bringing new attention to this deeply troubling policy and the committee’s willingness to examine the public health policy implications of abstinence-only programs. We look forward to the testimony of scientists, clinicians, researchers and youth activists who will report on the failures of abstinence-only education programs.

MADISON - The American Civil Liberties Union said today's decision by a Wisconsin court allowing the state's discipline of a pharmacist who refused to refill a prescription for birth control pills strikes an important balance between religious liberty and women's health.

High Court Refuses to Review Arizona Prisons Abortion Policy (3/24/2008)
Washington, DC - The United States Supreme Court announced today that it would not review a lower court decision preventing prison officials in Maricopa County, Arizona, from interfering with women prisoners’ access to timely, safe, and legal abortion care.

NYCLU Study Finds Lack of Standards Impedes Access to Womens Health Care in New York Jails; Prompts State Action (3/4/2008)
NEW YORK--Women incarcerated in New York State are legally entitled to reproductive health care, but few county jails have policies ensuring access to such care, according to a report released today by the Reproductive Rights Project of the New York Civil Liberties Union.

Community Groups Set Deadline for St Vincent Response (2/29/2008)
In a letter sent to the St. Vincent Hospital Board of Directors on Wednesday, a coalition of community groups called on board members to tell the public by March 4th whether the hospital will share details of its proposed partnership agreement with Catholic-run CHRISTUS Health and how that partnership would affect the provision of family planning, reproductive health services, and end-of-life care at the hospital.
