WASHINGTON - The American Civil Liberties Union today urged federal lawmakers to oppose the so-called ""Unborn Victims of Violence Act,"" which is set for consideration in the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution this morning, saying that attacks on pregnant women can be deterred just as effectively without adopting the bill's approach of separating the fetus from the woman in the eyes of the law.

ACLU Says Proposed Federal Regulation Undermines Reproductive Freedom (03/05/2002)
WASHINGTON -- Saying that it threatens to undermine reproductive freedom, the American Civil Liberties Union today denounced a new proposed federal health care regulation that elevates the status of the fetus under federal law and urged the Administration instead to support federal financing of prenatal care for all low-income women.

ACLU Warns VMI that New Pregnancy Policy Could Violate Law (07/03/2001)
RICHMOND, VA - The American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia and the ACLU's Women's Right's Project today sent a letter to the Virginia Military Institute's Board of Visitors asking the school to rethink a proposed policy that makes pregnancy grounds for dismissal from the academy. The letter also warns VMI that implementation of a such a policy may result in legal action and/ or withdrawal of federal funds. 

ACLU Files Pregnancy Discrimination Lawsuit Against Suburban New York Police Department (06/07/2001)
NEW YORK--Acting on behalf of three female officers who were forced off the job because they were pregnant, the New York Civil Liberties Union today filed a federal pregnancy discrimination lawsuit against the Suffolk County Police Department of Long Island.
