Report Finds No Evidence to Continue Funding Abstinence-Only-Until-Marriage Programs (11/07/2007)
WASHINGTON – The American Civil Liberties Union today said a new report reviewing the effectiveness of 115 sex education programs provides strong evidence that it is time for the federal government to support comprehensive sex education programs. This report comes at the same time Congress is poised to again increase funding for abstinence-only-until marriage programs.
ACLU Disappointed in Congressional Failure to Protect Teen Health (11/02/2007)
Washington, DC – The American Civil Liberties Union today expressed frustration in Congress for its passage of a $28 million increase in the Community-Based Abstinence Education (CBAE) program. This increase is the second largest in the history of the program, despite recent studies revealing that such abstinence-only-until-marriage programs censor vital health care information, promote outdated and untrue gender stereotypes, discriminate against LGBT teens, and in some cases, promote religion in violation of the Constitution.
U.S. Supreme Court Denies Review of New York Law Requiring Insurers to Cover Contraceptives (10/01/2007)
WASHINGTON - The U.S. Supreme Court today turned down a request by Catholic Charities of New York to review a state court decision requiring insurance companies to include contraceptive coverage in drug benefit packages. The Court's refusal to hear the case leaves in place a law that promotes women's health and addresses gender discrimination while appropriately protecting religious freedom.
Arizona Supreme Court Refuses to Review Prison's Abortion Policy (09/26/2007)
PHOENIX - The American Civil Liberties Union today applauded the Arizona Supreme Court's refusal to review a lower court decision allowing prisoners to access timely, safe, and legal abortions. The court's action, announced late yesterday, ensures that women prisoners in Arizona will be able to obtain the medical care they need.

TRENTON, NJ - The American Civil Liberties Union today applauded a decision by the New Jersey Supreme Court dismissing a medical malpractice lawsuit that could have improperly forced physicians to give a non-medical, value-laden speech to their patients before performing an abortion. The ACLU called the decision a victory for reproductive rights and free speech in New Jersey.
ACLU of Florida Lauds School Board's Vote to Revise Sex Education Curriculum (08/15/2007)
MELBOURNE, FL- The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida today praised the efforts of Brevard County Superintendent Richard A. DiPatri whose recommended sex education curriculum revisions were approved by a 3-2 vote at last night's school board meeting. The Superintendent's revisions were supported by the votes of school board members Barbara Murray, Larry E. Hughes, and Chairman Robert Jordan.
ACLU of Washington Seeks to Join Lawsuit to Defend Access to Medicines (08/14/2007)
OLYMPIA, WA – Patients, physicians and concerned women from across Washington state today announced they are seeking to join the state of Washington in a lawsuit defending new rules that require pharmacies to fill valid prescriptions and provide medications without discrimination or delay.
