ACLU, NYCLU, and National Abortion Federation Call on U.S. Supreme Court to Hold Women's Health Paramount In Federal Abortion Ban Challenge (09/21/2006)
WASHINGTON - The American Civil Liberties Union, the New York Civil Liberties Union, and the National Abortion Federation (NAF) today submitted a friend-of-the-court brief in the U.S. Supreme Court calling on the Court to continue to hold women's health paramount when it hears argument on November 8th in challenges to a federal ban on abortion. These groups urged the Court to affirm lower court decisions striking down the ban.

ACLU of Wisconsin Wins Health Insurance Coverage of Birth Control for County Employees (09/12/2006)
MILWAUKEE - The American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin announced today that three Marathon County employees have won the right to health insurance coverage for prescription contraceptives. The decision highlights the ways in which the county’s refusal to pay for contraception was illegal sex discrimination.

Law Requiring Insurers to Cover Contraceptives Promotes Women’s Health and Reduces Discrimination, ACLU and NYCLU Say (09/06/2006)
ALBANY - The American Civil Liberties Union and the New York Civil Liberties Union today said a New York state law requiring insurance companies to include contraceptive coverage in drug benefit packages promotes women’s health and is an important step toward ending gender discrimination in insurance coverage. The organizations voiced support for the law as argument got underway today in court.

ACLU Says FDA Shift on Plan B is a Step in the Right Direction, But Says Arbitrary Age Restriction Infringes on Privacy Rights (08/24/2006)
WASHINGTON – The American Civil Liberties Union today said the decision by the Food and Drug Administration to allow pharmacies to sell emergency contraception -- also known as Plan B or the “morning after” pill -- without a prescription to women 18 and over was a step in the right direction. The ACLU warned, however, that the arbitrary age restriction not only infringes on privacy rights but also will deter women of all ages from purchasing emergency contraception.

Pharmacists Should Be Held Accountable for Refusing to Honor Prescriptions for Emergency Contraception, NYCLU Says (08/15/2006)
NEW YORK -- The New York Civil Liberties Union today filed a complaint against three pharmacists who refused to fill patients’ prescriptions for refill doses of emergency contraception. The complaint argues that the pharmacists should be disciplined for neglecting professional responsibilities.

WASHINGTON - The American Civil Liberties Union today urged the Senate to reject the Teen Endangerment Act, a dangerous measure that would restrict a young woman's ability to obtain an abortion outside of her home state even in a medical emergency. The legislation would put vulnerable young women at risk and is expected to be considered later today.

ACLU Applauds South Dakotans’ Efforts to Protect Women’s Health and Safety in Light of Extreme Abortion Ban (05/30/2006)
PIERRE, SD -- The American Civil Liberties Union today applauded the efforts of South Dakotans to protect women’s health and safety in light of an extreme and dangerous abortion ban. The South Dakota Campaign for Health Families brought petitions with over 37,800 signatures today to the state capitol in order to place a repeal of the ban on the November ballot.
