NEW YORK – The American Civil Liberties Union will host a CD release party tonight for “inSECURITY,” a new live CD written and performed by award-winning artists Steve Connell and Sekou (tha misfit). The event will be held at the Bowery Poetry Club in New York City and will feature a special performance by the artists.

“This CD and launch party represent the true power of words and the inherent freedom in speech,” said Steve Connell and Sekou (tha misfit). “The ACLU has found union with spoken word poetry. Ready or not here we come.”

The award-winning artists Steve & Sekou (tha misfit) wrote the title track, “inSECURITY,” especially for the ACLU. They debuted the material on October 15 at the ACLU’s annual membership conference in Washington, DC.  The CD features three tracks, each of which addresses the ongoing struggle between fear and freedom in a post-9/11 world.

Sekou (tha misfit) is a two-time champion of the National Poetry Slam Competition. Steve Connell is a Hollywood L.A. Grand Slam Champion, Champion of the National Poetry Slam and 2003 winner of the New Word Series National Poetry Slam. The pair has been featured on ABC World News, Good Morning America, HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, Showtime’s Crossover, MTV’s Battlegrounds, BET’s Lyric Café and P. Diddy’s Annual White Party. They were invited by HBO to perform together at the 12th Annual U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, CO, this past March and toured with Declare Yourself – the voting initiative founded by legendary TV/filmmaker Norman Lear.
