The request seeks records concerning the FBI's use and practice of issuing NSLs in non-FBI investigations, whether at the request of the DoD or other agencies. The request also seeks records concerning the FBI's implementation of its power to impose non-disclosure obligations on NSL recipients since the NSL law was amended in 2006.

ACLU Vows Vigilant Oversight of New Attorney General (11/09/2007)
Following the Senate's vote confirming Michael Mukasey as the next attorney general, the American Civil Liberties Union pledged today to remain a vigilant watchdog of the Justice Department. The ACLU will press for a firm commitment from Attorney General Mukasey to enforce existing bans on the practice of torture and other abusive interrogation methods by the U.S. government. Although Mukasey's confirmation battle is over, the fight to protect the rule of law continues.

NSL Documents Released by DOD (10/14/2007)

National Security Letters FOIA (10/11/2007)
In April 2007, the American Civil Liberties Union filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the Department of Defense and the CIA to turn over documents concerning their use of National Security Letters (NSLs) to demand private and sensitive records about people within the United States without court approval. After they failed to comply, the ACLU filed a lawsuit in June 2007.
