Holding Phone Companies Accountable
The ACLU of Vermont filed a complaint on May 24, 2006, for the Vermont Public Service Board to investigate whether Verizon has shared customers' phone records with the NSA. Governor Jim Douglas ordered the PSB to investigate, but the Department of Justice intervened to stop the investigation, and the case was consolidated with other lawsuits against the phone companies in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in California.
