Holding Phone Companies Accountable
The ACLU of Washington filed a request on May 24, 2006, for the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission to investigate whether local phone companies have shared customers' phone records with the NSA. A handful of rural phone companies denied cooperating with the NSA, and the ACLU dropped its complaint against them. The UTC has deferred further investigation pending a decision in
