Even in Churches, Wall Street Protestors Can’t Escape Watch of Police (nytimes.com)

Plainclothes NYPD officers reportedly feigned having to use the restroom in order to enter a church and conduct surveillance on Occupy Wall Street protestors who recently sought shelter there after being evicted from their original protest site at Zuccotti Park. Such surveillance may violate the limits on police infiltration of political activity under the Handschu agreement, which was proscribed to the NYPD in 1985 after the courts found that it engaged in abusive intelligence gathering practices. Reports of inappropriate police inquiries have come from other churches and synagogues that provided shelter for Occupy Wall Street protestors as well.
