WESTMINSTER, MD – Following a petition drive by Winters Mill High School students, he American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland is calling for an end to the censorship that has stripped several books from the shelves of school libraries.

CHARLESTON, WV -- A federal court today found that school officials violated a high school student's rights when they disciplined him for wearing a t-shirt bearing an image of the Confederate flag. RICHMOND, VA--On a 7-7 vote, the Virginia Senate Education and Health Committee today blocked a bill intended to require schools to notify parents when their children refused to recite or stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. The vote followed a warning by the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia that it was prepared to mount a legal challenge if the bill passed.

INDIANAPOLIS--The Indiana Civil Liberties Union announced today that it has received a $20,000 grant from the Efroymson Fund of the Central Indiana Community Foundation to support the creation of a ""What Are My Rights?"" program for community education and outreach. The grant will allow the ICLU to design and implement a civil liberties curriculum for at-risk high school youth and recent adult immigrants.
