ACLU Recommends Amendments to Miami-Dade County Commission
MIAMI – The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida and its Greater Miami
Chapter today sent a letter urging the Miami-Dade County Commission to amend a
resolutions calling for voter-verified paper trails for touch-screen voting
machines.
While the ACLU supports Commissioner Carlos A. Gimenez’s
resolution to enlist the commission in petitioning the Secretary of State to
mandate voter-verifiable paper trails, the ACLU also highlighted the growing
national concerns about the reliability of electronic voting machines. “The
iVotronic voting machines do not meet basic standards to merit the confidence of
voters, and simply adding a verifiable paper trail is not an adequate fix,” the
ACLU said in its letter.
