HONOLULU - The American Civil Liberties Union of Hawaii filed a lawsuit today asking the state supreme court to invalidate an approved ballot measure to change the state constitution, charging that the legislature failed to follow mandatory requirements for proposing constitutional amendments.

Federal Court Orders Florida Officials to Preserve Absentee Ballots Received After Election Day (11/04/2004)
MIAMI - In response to a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida and Florida Legal Services, a federal court has ordered Broward and Miami-Dade elections officials to segregate and preserve all absentee ballots received in the mail after 7 p.m. on Election Day.

ACLU of Eastern Missouri is Site of Election Day Voting Rights Command Center (11/02/2004)

MIAMI - The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida and Florida Legal Services today filed a lawsuit late this afternoon on behalf of voters who were deprived of the right to vote in today's presidential election because of foul-ups and delays by Miami-Dade and Broward elections officials in mailing absentee ballots.

ACLU of Florida Launches Video Poll Monitoring to Document Voter Challenges, Complaints of Voter Harassment (11/01/2004)
MIAMI - The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida today announced that it will be collaborating with the Washington D.C.-based Police Complaint Center to monitor and investigate complaints of voter intimidation on Election Day through videotaped interviews with people who are wrongfully denied the right to vote.

Rhode Island Settles ACLU Provisional Ballot Lawsuit (11/01/2004)
PROVIDENCE, RI -- Responding to an American Civil Liberties Union lawsuit filed earlier this morning, the state Board of Elections today agreed to count all provisional ballots cast by voters who are unable to provide identification at their polling place. The board had previously indicated that it would disqualify all such ballots cast by individuals who had registered to vote by mail after January 1, 2003 but who did not submit an identification document with their application.

ACLU of Rhode Island Sues State Over Fate of Provisional Ballots (11/01/2004)
PROVIDENCE--The American Civil Liberties Union of Rhode Island today filed an emergency lawsuit against the state challenging a decision by the Board of Elections to reject potentially hundreds of provisional ballots to be cast on Election Day. The lawsuit argues that the Board's decision violates the 2002 federal law known as the Help America Vote Act.
