Yesterday we hosted our second Gone Gitmo event in Second Life, featuring a concert with Second Life band CyberPiper and a Q&A with ACLU spokesperson BWiz Kidd a.k.a. Ben Wizner, who was just in the real-life Guantánamo observing the military commission hearings as a human rights observer.

We hosted over forty avatars yesterday, which is a great crowd for any event in Second Life, at the suggestion of a few avid ACLU Safe and Free Group members our next event will be on a Saturday so more people can attend. Apparently, not everyone has the luxury of Second Life as part of their daily responsibilities. Lots of avatars had questions and opinions regarding the closure of Guantanamo-hopefully they signed our pledge to close the place down.

The Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC) blog interviewed our very own Media Relations Liasion Constance DeCherney for the event. (Disclosure: Multimedia artists Peggy Weil andNonny de la Pena created Gone Gitmo during a residency at BAVC.)

You can read about our first Close Guantánamo event in Second Life on January 11, 2008, the sixth anniversary of the arrival of the first prisoners at Guantánamo. And check out Ben’s blog posts on DailyKos, written from Guantánamo after last week’s hearings.
