Toni Lane
Toni’s art explores important social realities such as homelessness, race and class discrimination, domestic violence, mental health, and other struggles of everyday life. She also highlights the parts of life that bring her joy, including family, childhood memories, and personal relationships. Regardless of her subject matter, Toni renders potent human desires, emotions, and struggles with great immediacy.
About the Artist
Toni is a friendly and helpful face in the Art Enables studio as both a resident artist and our Studio Art Coordinator. She draws on a lifetime of artistic experience and her own prolific practice to enrich the experiences of her peers. When creating her own work, she becomes much more introverted as she focuses on documenting the realities of society. She uses a multitude of media, favoring oil pastels and ink, to archive the many societal influences that affect her and how she sees the world. Toni believes her obligation as an artist is to expose reality and find freedom, and she’s determined to fulfill that role.
Art Enables is an art gallery and vocational program dedicated to creating opportunities for artists with disabilities to make, market, and earn income from their original and compelling artwork while building the skills, relationships, and experience necessary for a successful career in the arts.
