Because freedom can't protect itself
I've been reading a lot about FBI seeking expanded powers. Can you explain the process it will need to go through for those expanded powers and how citizens can closely track it?
Well, not exactly.
Regulations carry the force of law because the agencies that create them have been authorized by Congress to create them. They the regulation comes from the executive branch, the authority to create a regulation (and to punish a violation) comes from Congress. If the executive branch creates a bad regulation, it can be effectively repealed by an act of Congress (which is subject to Presidential veto).
