Because freedom can't protect itself
How about the GI bill, with religious colleges? Government jobs, whose pay can be used to buy a plastic Buddha? I'm an atheist and an ACLU member, and I find this an unproductive and extremely slippery slope.
Isn't the ACLU supposed to protect freedom? How is forcing students to attend government run schools protecting the right to freedom of educational choice?
Is the ACLU helping to overturn the FL court's decision? This is appalling.
Religious Privileging in Central Florida
On Wednesday, January 16, World-Changers of Florida, Inc., a conservative Christian organization, was given permission and access to the 11 high schools in the Orange County, Florida, High School District to come on campus and leave bibles on the desk of every student in every classroom in each of those 11 high schools. This action was taken after a court ruling in Collier County, Florida, approved such religious materials distribution in the high schools as constitutional.
Arizona has had charter schools for years. Also, Arizona, allow residents to divert taxes, normally paid to the state to support public school, to private religious or non-religious school. I guess Arizona should also allow residents to divert taxes normally paid to the state to support public police departments, fire departments, libraries, etc. to private companies to provide their own private police, fire fighters, librarians, etc. if the residents did not like the level of services normally provided by the government.
