Because freedom can't protect itself
I just did a Google map review of the 100 mile limit. One of the things that jumped out at me was that the Great Lakes area is the most affected by this 100 mile limit. It is worth noting that Flint Michigan is well within the 100 mile limit, as is Detroit.
Benjamin Franklin warned, "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
The Founding Fathers said a lot of things about what they knew could happen if the wrong people got into power. They tried their best to plan for that by writing a Constitution and a Declaration that embodied what they saw as the most noble qualities to aspire toward. Unfortunately the world we live in today, as the world they lived in, is populated with ignoble power mongers coupled with the undeserving apathetic who care nothing of philosophy, vision, values or the nobler aspirations of humanity. The bankers took over a long time ago and we are seeing the products of their "labor" now: a disinterested and disengaged citizenry, a corporate ruled Congress and Senate. An executive and administrative branch who exist to carry out the will of the bankers; America was betrayed a long time ago and not by outsiders but by those who have the most capacity to do her such great damage owing to their proximity. What we see today with the erosion of civil liberties is only the tip of the iceberg. The Founding Fathers saw that too, no doubt: an America torn apart from within. The government has long been hijacked, but the America that I love fights on in the streets, resisting the despotism and tyranny of those who hate true freedom because it means less profit and power for them. There will always be a need for security, but there is no reason to believe that those who are charged with it will not use it against the citizenry; why put your faith in the greedy and power hungry who do most anything to get what they want?
When combined with the NDAA and indifference to the constitution and Bill of Rights it looks ominous indeed. Will be interesting to see what the plan is once we're disarmed.
