Finally, ACLU acts up with this serious situation regarding the violations of the U.S. Constitution, Amendment 8 - Cruel and Unusual Punishment
Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. I know a deaf person who was in the U.S. Federal prison in Pennsylvania suffered the infliction of cruel and unusual punishment by not having the equal access of the communications with the families and friends and even no interpreters were provided inside the facility for the meetings, trainings and education for 1 and 1/2 years. This person contacted ACLU in Virginia and obtained no assistance from this ACLU due to ACLU's statement that said that ACLU could not help because of the high volume of other cases to take care of. Sigh! So now ACLU please continue fighting this and it is very important issue, probably the most important issue of all others.
well the same applies to those with intellectual disabilities HELD against their will the same as prison within the psych unts as sometimes NO ONE ASSISTS THEM with hipaa so no one can contact them and these individuals cannot even ask for the phone due to their disabilities.
think anyone's concerned ? LOL
as for the aclu basically being the only defender,THEY themselves should be investigating this as rights are violate daily among the prison and psych facilities and we have no ne to take these cases within the deadlines set by law.
Yup. This is a serious issue. Few months back my partner was wrongfully arrested because the cops refused to listen to me being deaf. Once he was in jail for 4 days, he had no access to a phone. He was not able to contact me or a lawyer.
I had called to request medical assistance only to have my partner arrested.
Last week a malicious person attempted to hit my service dog for the deaf, I called the police, The police did nothing because he could not understand my complaint. The police thought I was making up the story. I would not call the police unless I thought me or my dogs life was in jeopardy.
2 incidence by the same police. It showed total disregard towards deaf people with other disabilities. More action needs to be done in this area.
