Because freedom can't protect itself
I find the ACLU's silence on the widespread warrantless searches of Boston homes, the way the police terrorized unarmed civilians inside their homes at automatic weapon gunpoint. It's far more chilling than anything ever achieved by a few kids with guns and homemade explosives.
Obviously, the public safety argument fails to hold water under these circumstances. Does the ACLU expect to ever be taken seriously again if they don't devote 110% of their resources to fighting this with rabid intensity? Surely this is the single most troubling overreach of power and denigration of US rights I've witnessed from afar in my lifetime.
