Because freedom can't protect itself
What about the emails that are intercepted? A warning is sent back to the sender not to try to send the email again. This issue goes way beyond knowing one's location. Contrary to popular belief ordinary citizens are being harmed by this and someone needs to be held accountable!
Peer-Reviewed Scientific Studies Demonstrating The Information Provided From Cell Phone/GPS Metadata (using only location centric data), Precise Predictions:

Only 30 days of cell loc. data was used [or is needed].)

http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0060069 (Human Spacial and Economic Mobility, provided by cell phone data: "In the case of mobile phone data the trips’ destinations are determined by the particular purpose of the users when they start the trip. Therefore, the variable should now represent not only the number of job opportunities in a region, but rather the number of all possible venues that could be the destination of a trip, e.g. shopping centers, restaurants, schools, bars, etc. We therefore define the variable , representing the number of possible points of interest in a circular region centered at a given cell tower, as the total number of calls placed from the towers in , assuming that a location’s attractiveness is proportional to its call activity.")
