Denese lives in Tampa, Florida and registered hundreds of voters in the 2008 election. Florida’s new voter suppression measure now puts significant restrictions on third parties that register voters. The new law requires groups and individuals registering voters to turn in all registration information within 48 hours. (They used to have 10 days.) The rules are so stringent, and the penalties for violating them so harsh, that many groups, including the League of Women Voters, have stopped registering voters there.
