ACLU Campaign for Smart Justice
William "Bill" Cobb came to the ACLU in January of 2017 with 17 years of advocacy and political organizing experience as a community activist and, later, as a non-profit founder and executive director. Much of Bill’s efforts focused in restoring the rights of people who have been incarcerated in America's jails and prisons. At the ACLU, Bill quickly put his experience to use, helping to design and lead an historic, groundbreaking campaign to canvass and turn out voters in the Philadelphia District Attorney race in 2017. Bill and his team collaborate with ACLU affiliates, reform advocates, impacted communities, philanthropic partners, and ACLU volunteers to craft and execute strategic campaigns in all 50 states to combat the primary drivers of mass incarceration.
Bill resides in Philadelphia where he serves on the boards of Community Legal Services, Defenders Association of Philadelphia, and Philadelphia Legal Assistance.
