Bio

Delphine Lourtau is Deputy Director of the ACLU's John Adams Project, assisting in the defense of capitally charged Guantánamo detainees. Previously, she served as the inaugural Executive Director of the Cornell Center on the Death Penalty Worldwide, an advocacy, research, and training institute at Cornell Law School focused on reducing the use of capital punishment by fighting discriminatory practices, promoting due process and international human rights norms, and empowering the global community of capital defenders. As Senior Staff Attorney at Reprieve U.S., she contributed to investigating states' execution practices and litigating broad execution secrecy legislation. Ms. Lourtau started her career as a judicial law clerk to Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin at the Supreme Court of Canada. She holds a J.D./B.C.L. from McGill University (Canada), an LL.M. from New York University (USA), and a Master's degree from the Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris (France).
