Ashley supports the ACLU National office in her role as Paralegal for the Immigrants' Rights Project. As a Latina and first-generation American, Ashley is a proud descendant of previously undocumented Nicaraguan asylum seekers. Before joining IRP, Ashley advocated for Immigrants' Rights at ACLU of Massachusetts for three and a half years. She worked on preparing U-Visa applications for Venezuelan migrants left on Martha's Vineyard by the Governor of Florida; monitored the Calderon class action hotline which provides relief from removal for ICE detainees married to U.S. citizen spouses. Before joining ACLU, Ashley advocated for Immigrants' Rights as a humanitarian immigration paralegal and translator. As a paralegal, she worked closely with indigenous Quechua women and undocumented immigrant families in Massachusetts who have experienced political and racial persecution, as well as severe sexual violence, physical and emotional abuse. Ashley helped undocumented communities navigate the complex U.S. immigration court system and attain humanitarian asylum and permanent status within the United States. Her personal background and professional experience with survivors of complex trauma have informed her passion for immigration law reform and humane practices, as well as civil rights and social justice.
